Why Do You Need Commercial Auto Insurance?

If an automobile is used in tasks related to the operator’s occupation, profession, or business other than commuting a commercial auto policy is necessary. This could include using your auto to transport goods, or people for a fee. This could also include transporting tools or equipment to conduct your business. Also, you may need a commercial auto policy if you have employees operating the auto or if the automobile is in the name of a corporation.

What Does Commercial Auto Insurance Cover?

  • Bodily Injury & Property Damage Liability Coverage-Pays for bodily injury or death resulting from an accident for which you are at fault. You are also provided protection if your car damages another person’s property. You are also provided with a legal defense.
  • Medical Payments- Medical payments pays expenses incurred for necessary medical and funeral services to persons injured by an accident. Payments are without regard to fault.
  • Uninsured Motorist Coverage- Pays for your bodily injury by an uninsured driver and protects you from another driver who carries liability limits that are lower than your damages.
  • Collision Coverage- Pays for damage to your car when it hits or is hit by another object or vehicle.
  • Comprehensive Coverage- Coverage for other than collision. Pays for damage to your car from theft, vandalism, flood, fire, glass.
  • Personal Injury Protection (PIP) – PIP benefits are payable for injuries sustained in an accident regardless of fault. PIP benefits are $10,000 per person per accident.

Most Commercial Auto policies are “named driver only” policies meaning only those drivers listed on the policy can operate a covered auto.
